Welcome to Extreme Blue
There are still 15 minutes left in this day, but I’m confident in saying that this day is going to be the start of something amazing. Our first day in the Extreme Blue program at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina was filled with activity. Most of the day was spent in orientation and getting ourselves set up with IBM. The Extreme Blue staffing team gave us overviews of how the program would work and information essential for our success. In addition, Samuel Adams, a Vice President and Distinguished Engineer at IBM, gave us advice for how to take advantage of the incredible opportunity we have this summer at IBM.
After work, we met at the pavilions for a BBQ and networking with EB alumni. In the past day, we have had to learn a lot of new faces very quickly and I am having a hard time keeping all the names straight.
I spent the evening jamming with Adam, Chris, and David. There are a surprising number of musicians in our EB team and I’m set on creating a band.
The move down to North Carolina last Friday went easily. I stopped at W&L Univ. and visited Victoria for a short bit. She gave me a tour of the campus and then I drove the remaining length on the back roads.
On Saturday, I gave Steve-o a call and we went out for dinner. I spent most of the day unpacking and setting up my room. In the evening, I headed out with some other EBers to Franklin Street.
Jon, Lisa, and I went to Brasso on Sunday and had an amazing dinner. I spent the evening in and worked on a website which turned into http://www.ibmextremeblue.com. I was hoping it would provide a nice central way of getting to know everyone and exchanging photos and ideas. My roommate Chris showed up that evening and I helped him move in.
Ben,
Can’t tell you enough how glad we are to have you in the lab this summer!
