Fort Lauderdale - beach, at last

Filed under: Athletics, Life, Travel — Benjamin Chodroff @ 10:23 am

I woke up bright and early and went for about a 6 mile run down the road. On the way back I stopped by a grocery store and picked up some turkey, bread, and a big jug of orange juice.
I decided to drive again, but I knew I wouldn’t be going the whole day.

After lunch, the road was getting to me and I decided to let someone else take over. Janine volunteered to take the wheel. I silently celebrated, but realized that I was too dead tired to socialize. I tried to catch a few winks before we reached Fort Lauderdale.

We arrived at the state park and were blown away at what we saw. Our cabins were air conditioned and nestled in a beautiful forest of native foliage and in walking distance from the sea. The Hilton had worse real estate than us.

Priority number one was getting some beach time in before our orientation. The sea was a bit cold, but the weather was the stuff postcard pictures are made of.

Orientation was just going over some basic information. The other group of Habitat for Humanity hailed from Bucknell. They were a much larger group: 35 as compared to our 16. After orientation, a group of us headed out in search of a grocery store to stock up. I volunteered to cook for the evening and picked up the supplies to make a chicken pasta topped with a sun dried tomato pesto sauce mixed with baby spinach. It came out very well - with much help from some of the other group members who volunteered to assist in the kitchen. We got quite a few compliments.
